Stevensons Use of Literary Techniques in The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyl

Stevensons Use of Literary Techniques in The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. HydeIn his novella Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde, Robert Louis Stevensonexplores the dual nature of Victorian man, and his link with an age ofhypocrisy. Whilst writing the report card he obviously wanted to show thepeople of the time what happened lav closed doors. In Jekyllssuicide note he makes the following placard I have observed thatwhen I wore the semblance of Edward Hyde, none could succeed near to meat first without a visible misgiving of the flesh. This, as I take it,was because all adult male beings, as we meet them, argon commingled out of slap-up and evil and Edward Hyde, alone in the ranks of mankind, waspure evil. I believe that the underlying moral of this novella isthat we are all comprised of considerably and evil, and that we should possessthe ability to control and acknowledge the darker side of ourselves.Dr Jekyll is described as a large, rise made, smooth-faced man offifty, with somet hing of a slyish cast perhaps, but every mark ofcapacity and kindness. However, when angered The large cock-a-hoop faceof Dr Jekyll grew pale to the very lips, and there came a blackness or so his eyes. He is a very strong-minded man, as he argues abouthis will with Mr Utterson, however he does become addicted to Hyde, and in any case weak to oppose him. Mr Utterson after meeting Hyde for thefirst time, starts to feel ghastly for his friend, however he doessuggest that Jekyll has a dark past was rampantly when he was young along while ago to be sure.Mr Hyde is presented as a very dark and sinister character. Hyde was atomic and very plainly dressed, and the look of him, even at adistance, went in some way against the watchers incli... ...ls mind to kill them both.By Jekyll killing, himself he sets both him, and Hyde free, althoughit is Hyde who is found when the cabinet door is forced open. This isbecause when Jekyll dies, he is emotionally and physically venerable, and Hyde shines through. So theoretically, it is Mr Hyde continues to outlive temporarily when Dr Jekyll is gone. Therefore, I conclude that Stevenson explores the duality, which lieswithin man very well and aptly describes this phenomena in Jekyllssuicide note when he writes, all human beings, as we meet them, arecommingled out of good and evil. However, I feel that he has nottruly exploited the capabilities that could have been unquestionable whensculpting Hydes character. Jekylls original experiment was to try tocreate a purely good man, however, he just ends up destroying hisexperiment and eventually himself.
